We remove cancelled listings from our web site immediately. But, since search engines crawl only a fraction of our pages each time they visit our site, it can take weeks for search engines to remove a cancelled listing from their indexes. Note, even though the listing appears in a search engine, clicking through the link will bring the user to a cancelled listing page (which has only a generic message that the listing has been cancelled).
